The Central Instrument Company (CIC) was established in 1979 and specializes in school band and orchestra instruments as well as accessories. The company is owned and operated by former school music teachers. We offer popular nationally advertised band and orchestra instruments, accessories, and music books. We are a dealer for Yamaha, Selmer, Bach, Conn, Armstrong, Emerson, Buffet, Ludwig, Musser, Deagan products.

Our factory-trained service technicians assure you the highest quality repair work. Many schools and professional musicians rely on the facilities at the Central Instrument Company for their instrument repairs.

CIC offers an instrument rental program with the option to own. This rental program is unsurpassed anywhere, enabling the greatest number of students to give music a try for the least amount of money. Even with today's high cost of musical instruments CIC has still been able to hold down the prices on its rental instruments.

We supply schools educational aids such as band folders, concert programs, and instrument care pamphlets. Our educationally oriented business is dedicated to the development and encouragement of school band and orchestra programs.

Jim Stahl - President and CEO

Jim Stahl has always had a great deal of interest in music performance and music education. He graduated from the University of Akron with both Bachelor of Music in clarinet performance and Bachelor of Music Education degrees. Jim also attended the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) where he received the Master of Music in clarinet. While at CIM, Jim studied with famed Cleveland Orchestra clarinetist, Theodore Johnson. Jim taught private clarinet lessons for several years before serving as a high school band director in the Delaware City Schools. For many years he was active as a performing clarinetist throughout northeast Ohio, including four years with the Akron Symphony Orchestra. Jim founded the Central Instrument Company in 1979 and today is recognized as one of the leading school music retailers in the area. He is also the founder of the New Horizons Band of Summit & Stark counties, a nationwide movement designed to teach older musicians to play a musical instrument. Jim is also a member of The Venner Clarinet Choir, a professional group of a dozen clarinetists.

  Mike Satola - Accountant
Mike joined CIC in 2013. He is a graduate of Dyke College in Cleveland with a BS in Accounting. He is a former member of the All Ohio Boys Band. He is active in his community and follows Ohio State. Another clarinetist!
Don Volenik Don Volenik -- Sales Representative, Web Sales, Purchasing 
Don joined the staff of CIC in the fall of 1999 as one of its two outside sales reps. Don holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Youngstown State University. His previous teaching experience includes twelve years as an instrumental music teacher in public and parochial schools. His major instrument is the trumpet and he occasionally performs throughout Northeast Ohio. 
Ron Florkowski
Ron Florkowski -- Repair Technician, Web Sales
Ron has worked at CIC since 1995 in repair service and sales. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Toledo. He has served as an apprentice to a graduate of Western Iowa University. He was a tech at Coyle's Music of Columbus, Ohio, for fifteen years and served as assistant manager of the Toledo store. Ron plays the trumpet, sax, and bass guitar (we believe he sounds great on many more). He has played in a Toledo based polka band and fronted his own wedding band for ten years. "TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY I WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED IN BUSINESS AND IN LIFE."
Sue Swab
Sue Swab -- Repair Technician
Sue joined the staff at CIC in 1979 making her the the staff member with the most experience with the company. Sue received her B.A. degree in Music Ed from Bowling Green State Univ. and an associate degree in instrument repair from Western Iowa Tech. Sue studied string repair with Peter Horn and plays handbells and trombone. She performs with the Summit Bells and Western Reserve Community Band. "WHEN A PERSON MEETS HARD TIMES, IT IS A SONG THAT HELPS THEM THROUGH."

Brian Medellin -- Repair Technician
Brian joined CIC in January 2014 as a full-time repair technician. He attended the University of Akron focusing on music education and clarinet performance. He has studied instrument repair at NAPBIRT University, has completed training with Buffet-Crampon and Powell Flutes, and is certified on  Straubinger pad installation and maintenance. Brian has given instruction on clarinet and saxophone. He does excellent work in restoring and repairing our string instruments. He and his wife have 2 beautiful children.

Sue Hyatt -- Accounts Manager, Sales, Advertising
Sue joined the CIC Family in 2006. Sue works in sales, design and accounts management. She has experience in business and training programs and attended the University of Akron Fine Arts School. Sue's instruments of choice are the violin and the cello. She is a member of the New Horizons Band Orchestra. "YOU'RE NEVER TOO OLD TO LEARN TO PLAY."
Peter Haubert -- Sales
Peter joined the CIC team in July 2014. Peter earned a bachelor's degree in music education, Summa Cum Laude from the University of Akron in 2010. He was a substitute teacher in the Akron/Cuyahoga Falls area for two years and he taught in Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools for two years as an assistant band director. Peter plays euphonium and baritone (yes there is a difference between the two). Peter is also active at his church, Victory Life Church in Stow.

Caroline Stilwell --Part Time Sales
Caroline grew up in Cuyahoga Falls and went to Kent State University where she received a B.S. in Music Education and a Masters of Fine Arts degree.  She began teaching in the Cleveland Public Schools, but spent most of her career in rural Wayne County.  She retired after 35 years and enjoys part time work at CIC, teaching private clarinet lessons and playing in the Wadsworth Community Band. She loves learning German and traveling around the world.

Andrew Menich -- Part Time Repair
Andrew attended St. Vincent's/St. Mary's. He played percussion instruments with the school's marching Band, concert band, pep band, and jazz band. He graduated from Bowling Green and studied abroad in England. He presently can be hired as a web designer. We expect great things from him!

Mark Mitchell -- Part Time Sales
Mark received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Morehead State University and an M.S. in Music Education from Indiana State University. He retired from public school teaching in 2010 after teaching for 31 years, 26 of those as a high school and middle school band director for the Revere Local Schools. Mark performs as a trombonist in Northeastern Ohio.    

Bill Turner -- Part Time Repair
Bill was Band Director at Highland Schools and retired in 2012. He plays trumpet in swing bands around town.

Suzi Spiese-Chiera -- Part Time Sales
Suzi began working part time at CIC in January 2014. She graduated from Kent State
. She has been employed in the school system music department. She is an exciting and dynamic teacher. Her musical expertise is in percussion.     


 Kathy Emnett -- Collections Manager

Kathy joined the CIC staff part time in the spring of 2016 as an account representative. She is a Cuyahoga Falls High School graduate and went on to earn a Business Administration degree from West Virginia University. She has worked as a loan officer and in customer service positions. Kathy also volunteers with the Cuyahoga Falls Instrumental Patrons and chairs several committees each year.

Michael Emnett -- Part Time Repair

Michael joined the CIC staff in December 2016.  He is currently a senior at Cuyahoga Falls High School. Michael participates in the school’s music program where he plays the trombone in the Marching Band, Pep Band, Symphonic Band, and the Gold Tones Jazz Orchestra. He is also an active member of the Freedom Brass Band of Northeast Ohio. Michael loves listening to and learning about all genres of music and takes private lessons on trombone and banjo. In the fall, he plans on studying business while participating in the music program at Kent State University.

Michael Emnett, graduating from Cuyahoga Falls High School. He will attend Kent State University in the Fall as a Business major. Michael is a shining star!
